SERGEANT

SESSION

As mentioned, Derek and John's Double Act was well worth opening the wallet for.

Ah-Lek was fined for missing PETS this weekend and Rajesh was fined for attending.

Derek fined David Perry for quantity over quality adding a bit a of height to the proceedings.

Sarah P and Ashley were fined for lowering the average age in the room....by a lot!!

In light of the current political climate, John read the insightful and hilarious satirical musings of John Cleese announcing the revocation of America's independence for failure to elect a competent president.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A wonderful TFTW from Harbour in reference to a world of difference between a problem vs a challenge was too much of a chjallenge for me to take down. I will however leave you with the below.

"Whatever you're doing today, do it with the confidence of a 4 year old in a Batman t-shirt."

HEADS & TAILS

Derek strikes again!!!! A Grant Burge Barrossa Ink Shiraz going home to this multi winner....shame he doesn't have the same luck with Lotto tickets!!
Derek you may find yourself on H & T Duties.
Due to a slight miscommunication our Club's H & T contribution has gone back in to my wine rack. A lovely wee bubbly in a nod to Melbourne Cup Day.

Combining two Clubs even for the right motives will never be easy. Harbour Club have a simple yet effective solution to building relationships. Each week a few members are given 3 minutes to introduce themselves and talk about how they got into Rotary.
Great idea Harbour.
  • President Neville was given the opportunity to tell the assembled about his upbringing in South Dunedin and his 2 best life decisions; Returning home after having a ball for 12 months in the UK to marry Julie.
  • Joining Rotary 20 odd years ago.
For Neville a happy marriage, 2 children and the fellowship, experiences and life skills he has learnt and enjoyed through his Rotary involvement  continues to plant a smile firmly on this man's face.

NEXT MEETING 10th November

Get ready to Hang Ten next week fellow Club Members,
the Andrew Meek Memorial Auction is only days away.
Hope you have your best summer beach outfit ready?

The best Emcee in the business Johnathon Usher will no doubt entertain us, as he extracts our money for this major Club fundraiser.

Auction items can be received at the Dunedin Club on Monday 9th between 10 – 11 am or Auction night.
Past events have shown great generosity in items to be auctioned. I’m sure this year’s event will be no different.

There are still a few seats available. Bookings must be in by midnight Thursday 5 November so round up friends and family and make a night of it!"

Notices

As the guest Club's President, Neville thanked our hosts and the Harbour President Keith on our behalf, welcoming the opportunity to build fellowship and gain insight into the inner workings of Dunedin's newest Rotary Club. Naturally President Neville extended a reciprocal invitation to attend our Club meeting at the Dunedin Club in the near future. Certainly we could compete with this beautiful venue in the splendid grounds of the Dunedin Club and the lovely Jan.
It was wonderful to see Sarah Pearce joining us for dinner as she considers rejoining the Club after a wee sojourn.

BRICK/LUGO SHOW UPDATE

Your hard work and generous giving of time has paid off!!!

President Neville proudly held up a
$7,000 cheque for Child Cancer.

This is just one of the reasons we are all in Rotary...feeling very proud to be a member of Dunedin Central and to have played a small part in raising such a substantial donation to an exceptional cause.
Pat yourselves on the back Rotary Family.

DUNEDIN PRIVATE BOARDING REQUEST

With further COVID 19 lockdown now in place, the  Balclutha Club's Rotary Exchange student, Mackenzie Baines, is returning from France as soon as she is able. For 2021, Mackenzie will be a Year 13 student at a High School in Dunedin and would like a private boarding place there.
Mackenzie boarded with Anna for a few years at St Hilda's Collegiate and is an outgoing, active young lady with a bright future and a sunny nature. With a supportive family behind her, MacKenzie will be a wonderful addition to any household.

Please consider this request if you are able.

INTERCLUB VISIT: HARBOUR ROTARY CLUB

Otago University Staff Club

What a venue!!!

A very pretty walk through the campus, crossing the Leith with its view to the Clocktower to discover this magnificent stone building bathed in sunshine. There was a lively buzz around the U- shaped table design as the 2 Clubs mingled, some catching up with old friends and acquaintances while others introduced themselves to their neighbours.

Dual Sergeants kept the bean counter busy and the guests entertained. I imagine Sergeant Sessions of old ran along in a very similar vein. Thank you Derek and John Campbell for this little piece of Club theatre.

A great idea and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
