The history of Rotary Scholarships dates back to 1947 when the Rotary Foundation launched its first educational program, the Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study. The initial goal was to promote international understanding and goodwill by providing scholarships for graduate-level studies in various fields. In 1965, the program expanded to include undergraduate scholarships, allowing more students to benefit from Rotary's support.

Over the years, Rotary Scholarships have continued to evolve and diversify. In 2002, the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution were established, offering master's degree fellowships at prestigious universities around the world. These centers have played a crucial role in developing leaders dedicated to fostering peace and resolving conflicts.

In 2013, the Rotary Peace Centers expanded to include a professional development certificate program, further enhancing opportunities for individuals working in the field of peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

Additionally, Rotary has initiated various scholarship programs tailored to specific areas of study, including global grant scholarships for graduate studies, vocational training team scholarships for practical training, and cultural exchange scholarships for young adults.

Throughout its history, Rotary Scholarships have supported thousands of talented individuals, providing them with the resources to pursue higher education and vocational training, fostering leadership skills, and promoting Rotary's values of service and ethical conduct.

Today, Rotary Scholarships continue to be a cornerstone of Rotary International's commitment to education and international understanding, empowering future leaders to make a positive impact in their communities and contribute to a better and more peaceful world.

The Rotary Foundation and clubs invest in our future leaders and philanthropists by funding scholarships for undergraduate and graduate study.
